Doctorate

The Doctorate in International Relations aims to consolidate and deepen the theoretical and substantive knowledge in the area by presenting students with the latest debates of the discipline and the major issues of contemporary international politics. In the same manner, the Doctorate has a strong emphasis on research work, requiring from the student a clear theoretical understanding of the issues surrounding the research topic chosen and the ability to cut it accurately and develop it accordingly to appropriate methodological procedures. For the title of DOCTOR students must, in addition to meeting the required credits for the program, present, defend and have passed their PhD thesis within a maximum of 48 months from the entry.

Future Students

The Doctorate has a strong emphasis on research work, requiring from the student a clear theoretical understanding of the issues surrounding the chosen research topic and the ability to cut it accurately and develop it accordingly to appropriate methodological procedures. The program is aimed at candidates who have obtained a Master's degree in disciplines of Humanities and Social Sciences, and whose research interests have an international dimension.

 

 

Curricular Structure

The doctoral curriculum includes two required courses which are Theory of International Relations and Research Design, beyond the requirements of Qualifying Exam, Defense and Project Development (defense of doctoral thesis). In addition, students must complete three electives during the first eighteen months of the program. After qualifying, students have two years to conduct their individual research, always under supervision of the professor, and establish and defend the doctoral thesis.

 

Requirements for the Title

For the title of DOCTOR, students must:

Meet the 49 credits required by the program, required and electives courses;

Pass the Qualifying Examination which is a precondition for the defense of the thesis project;

Have your thesis project approved before a jury;

Defend and have approved the doctoral thesis.

The deadline for completion of the Doctorate is 48 months.
