Bruno Magalhães is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the International Relations Institute of the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (IRI, PUC-Rio). He holds a PhD on Politics and International Studies from the Open University/UK and a MRes degree on International Relations, from PUC. He is a member of the editorial team of the journal International Political Sociology and chief-editor of the Brazilian journal Cadernos de Relações Internacionais. Bruno’s research explores the issue of bordering through an ethnographic study of the practices of asylum screening, looking at how decisions on who is an economic migrant and who is a ‘genuine’ refugee are arrived at.
